PROMOTER Frank Warren this week
announced the launch of a new era in
domestic rivalries.
Alex Arthur will first challenge
either for the full or interim version of
the WBO super-featherweight title at
the Cardiff International Arena on July
7 against dangerous southpaw Koba
Gogoladze.
FRANK MALONEY won the purse
bids for HOWARD EASTMAN'S
mandatory British middleweight
title defence against Birmingham's
WAYNE ELCOCK.
The bout will take place at the
Aston Villa Leisure Centre,
Birmingham on September 28.
At light-middle, British champion
IAMIE MOORE must box ANDREW
FACEY, whom he stopped in seven
in November 2003, and JON
THAXT0N defend his British lightweight
title against GRAHAM EARL.
These two contests must take
place before the end of October.
WAYNE McCULLOUGH boxes on
the June 23 Bernard Dunne-Reidar
Walstad European super-bantamweight
title bill at the Point in Dublin - his first
fight in the city for 12 years.
Also boxing is Oisin Fagan, who in
his last fight took Paul Spadafora the
distance.
Promoter Brian Peters is doing good
things in Ireland.
CARL FROCH has eyes on a 'world'
title, but is being called to defend
both his British and Commonwealth
super-middleweight titles.
Froch has been ordered by the
Commonwealth Council to face
Ghana's Charles Adamu, whom
he beat to win the title on points in
March 2004, before the end of
September.
JOHNNY TAPIA has avoided a prison
sentence for possessing drugs in
March, when he overdosed and
(again) nearly lost his life.
The 40-year-old former 'world'
champion agreed a plea whereby he
will receive 18 months' probation
and must receive treatment for
drug abuse.
Tapia has entered himself into
the Second Chance program, a
facility connected with Scientology.
