MIKKEL KESSLER has brought in
top sparring for his tough March
24 WBA/WBC super-middleweight
title defence against LIBRAD0
ANDRADE in Copenhagen.
Chief sparring partner is Sakio
Bika, who extended Joe Calzaghe
for the WB0 title last year and has
a No Decision with then-WBC
champ Markus Beyer after
cutting him to bits.
Bika gets a spot on the bill -
see page 8.
Puncher Andrade is trained by
Wayne McCullough in Las Vegas.
JAMIE COX, a swashbuckling
amateur out of Swindon who won
gold in the 2006 Commonwealth
Games, has turned pro with Frank
Warren.
He will be trained by ex-world
champ Richie Woodhall and is
Woodhall's first pupil, after Richie
was denied the chance to help out
England's amateurs.
GERMAN super-middleweight Robert
Stieglitz finished off 2005 with a late
stoppage over Colombian Alejandro
Berrio in an IBF eliminator but had to
spend all of 2006 waiting for what Joe
Calzaghe would do.
During this time he had one routine
fight - a KO over Eric Howard.
Berrio, meanwhile, beat Yusaf Mack
to come back into the picture and then
he and Stieglitz were matched again for
the IBF title Calzaghe finally vacated.
Berrio began training for this fight
six months ago. That was probably the
difference in this headliner on Sauerland
Event's big show at the Town Hall.
