EXCELLENT light-flyweight title fight
on July 28 in Cancun sees WBC
champ EDGAR SOSA, who won
the belt from Brian Viloria in April,
defending against Argentina's LUIS
LAZARTE, his mandatory contender.
The 12-rounder was originally
set for the David Diaz-Erik Morales
undercard in Rosemont on August 4
but now goes ahead as main event.

FRANK BRUNO is recovering from a
car smash last Sunday.
The former WBC heavyweight
champ steered his Bentiey into a
crash barrier during the weekend's
heavy rain.
Bruno, 45, got out of his vehicle
relatively unhurt but the Bentiey
was written off.

JOACHIM ALCINE looks up against
it when he challenges WBA lightmiddleweight
champion TRAVIS
SIMMS in the hostile confines of
Bridgeport, Connecticut tomorrow
(Saturday July 7).
At least Alcine, a father of two,
won't be worried that Simms is a
southpaw. One of Joachim's trainers
is Otis Grant, the accomplished
southpaw who once took Ryan
Rhodes to school in Britain.
Joachim was born in Haiti but
has lived in Canada since he was
a boy. Canada is going through a
revival - can Alcine add to it?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO has
often said how our front page of
April 16 2004, when he lost his WBO
heavyweight title to Lamon Brewster
in Las Vegas, has served to spur him on.
It showed a shattered Klitschko on
the floor and Manchester's Michael
Brodie receiving attention from trainer
Ray Farrell. The headline was BROKEN
MEN (see below right).
Brodie had lost to Injin Chi for the
WBC featherweight title in a one-sided
bout and would never win again. He is
now retired.
