NEW world welterweight champion Lloyd Honeyghan was honoured by the Mayor of Southwark at the weekend with a civic
reception and an open-topped bus tour of the borough, but when the tour reached Lloyd's home patch at the Elephant and
Castle he abandoned the bus to lead the parade himself. Forget the world title . . . this weekend, Lloyd was the King of the
Castle instead!
MANCHESTER'S game Les Walsh acted out an old script in a
cracking top of the bill against Central Area featherweight champion
Anthony Brown at the Midlands Sporting Club.
For the third time in less than a year, Walsh floored Brown and
then failed to get the decision. On this occasion, at least he came out
with a share of the honours, referee Jim Pridding scoring their
gruelling 10-rounder 98 to each man.
BARRY McGUIGAN, showing one of the trappings of success, his own Mercedes
with unique number plate, spars up to Dr Garrett FitzGerald during a visit by the Irish
Republic's Prime Minister to Monaghan town recently.
EXCITEMENT looks assured when former Central Area lightweight
champion MUHAMMAD LOVELOCK meets SUGAR
GIBILIRU in the eight twos main event at the Anglo-American
Sporting Club, Manchester, on Tuesday, October 14.
Is a rematch, the two having shared an eight rounds nobbins
draw at this venue in April.
Lovelock lost to Ray Newby last week, and may not be as fresh as
Gibiliru, who might just sneak a narrow points win this time in
another good battle.
