MANCHESTER'S British super-featherweight champion Najib
Daho became the second Briton inside a week to fail to capture a
European crown.
Following bantamweight Ray Gilbody's quick defeat at the hands
of Frenchman Antoine Montero in Paris on October 27, Daho went
to war against Belgium's continental 9st 41bs title holder Jean-Marc
Renard just four nights later but had to retire himself after 1.10 of the
fifth of their scheduled 12-rounder before a near-capacity crowd at
the local sports hall.

Mark Kaylor, Coventry's Errol Christie is back on the
fringes of the world ratings. His rehabilitation was
completed by a comprehensive 100-96 points win over
former WBA light-middleweight title challenger Sean
Mannion.

THE British middleweight title stays in Sheffield: Brian
Anderson, stable-mate of the former undefeated champion
Herol Graham, took the title which Graham relinquished
with an eighth-round stoppage of Croydon puncher Tony
Burke at the Ulster Hall.
It was a bizarre ending to a fight which had been a
decided anti-climax for a fight crowd which had grown
accustomed to the high drama and excitement generated by
Barry McGuigan. Burke was caught by a right to the head,
and immediately doubled over in obvious agony, his head
buried in his gloves.

THE Newco Repton returned from the mini Junior
multi-nations tournament in Raufoss, Norway, with eight
gold medals. The strong team from Dublin collected three
golds.
The Raufoss Boxing Club tournament entered its eighth
year with a record number of entrants and bouts, 110 in all.
The quality of the superbly run tournament can be
measured by the strength of the losers from the various
nations.
Newco Repton losers included Mark Tibbs, Jamie
Robinson, and junior stylist Marlon Jones; the Irish saw
Brendan Byrne, a double winner in America at the start of
the summer, and international Robert Humphries both go
out on points.
