MOROCCAN-born Mancunian Najib Daho failed in his
attempt to become Commonwealth champion at a second
weight when he was outpointed by slippery Ghanaian
Thunder Aryeh over 12 uneventful rounds for the vacant
super-featherweight title at York Hall.
Daho, who had won the lightweight championship in
.May 1989, had not boxed since losing it to Carl Crook last
March. He was a substitute — at one week's notice — for
Mark Reefer, who gave up the crown and pulled out of a
scheduled defence against Aryeh.

MIDLANDS Area light-middleweight champion Wally
Swift continued his good run with an emphatic eight
threes points win over Barry's Alan Richards at the
Conference Centre.
Swift was to have topped the Midlands Sporting Club bill
in a title defence against Paul Wesley, but injury ruled
Wesley out.

BURY'S Glenn Campbell stretched his unbeaten run to
seven (all stoppages) and, in doing so, captured the
inaugural Central Area super-middleweight title with a
crushing fourth round demolition of Manchester's
brave Sean O'Phoenix in the scheduled 10-round
main event at the Castle Leisure Centre.

THE Royal Navy's Portsmouth Command powered its way to overall
victory in the 1990 Navy Novice Boxing Championships in the HMS
Nelson Gymnasium. A three point margin separated the Portsmouth
Command (22 pts) from nearest rivals Royal Marines, while Naval
Air Command eased into third place with a total of just 10 points

TOM COLLINS (right) makes the first defence of his second reign

Collins' last two bouts have been in France; he knocked out
Eric Nicoletta in nine rounds in August to win the title, but was
outpointed by Pierre-Frank Winterstein in a non-title bout in
October.
