with Carlos De Leon (left) in one of the worst world title
fights ever seen in this country.

JOHN DOHERTY aims to give credibility and continuity to the British super-featherweight
title, and in particular to his incumbency, by winning a Lonsdale Belt outright when he
makes a voluntary defence against former lightweight title challenger Joey Jacobs at the
Oldham Leisure Centre on Tuesday.

HEAVYWEIGHT Derek Williams faces his last hurdle before he meets British
champion Gary Mason in a triple title showdown sometime in March or April,

on the Tyson - Douglas undercard in Tokyo on February 11.
Page caused a stir last week when he floored the champ
briefly in a sparring session and word is that he is being
taken off the bill.
Page feels that promoter Don King is afraid to use him
because he will look better than Tyson and Douglas.

MARINE Mark Edwards restored some of English amateur
boxing's battered pride when he punched his way into the
Commonwealth Games middleweight semi-finals with two
stoppage victories.
Joining him in the last four, and with the guarantee of a
bronze medal at least, were featherweight John Irwin and
Richie Woodhall in the light-middles.
