SERGIO MARTINEZ certainly belongs
among the pound-for-pound best.
The way I judge a fighter's worth is
to give him the test of time and see
how consistent the guy is, but I don't
look at it the way other people do. 1
want to see what kind of level and what
kind of styles he's doing it against.
He is a solid guy and that is the first
thing I look for. Can he fit in with
anybody? Can he fit in physically,
mentally and technically? Can he make
adjustments and figure it out? Can he
behave consistently?

THERE'S been a lot of insults flying
between James DeGale and George
Groves. Is the animosity real?
Richie Woodhall: Definitely. It comes from
when they boxed as amateurs and Groves got
the decision. I didn't see the fight but a lot of
people I've spoken to think DeGale deserved
it. I tell you what, I've spoken to them both and
the rivalry is not put on. It's proper.

IT was a case of "Same old, same old" recently in
Glasgow. A young hopeful touted as the world's
next superstar matched against a punchbag to
the detriment of all concerned. I refer of course
to James DeGale's fight on the undercard of
the Ricky Burns bill in Scotland. 1 say 'fight',
although my old dad of 70 years-plus still puts
up more resistance when I try to take the TV
remote away from him than DeGale's opponent
did on the night. The contest was stopped, we
were told afterwards by our MC, due to Alpay
Kobal, "being in no position to continue".
Frankly, he was in no position to start!

LAINDON'S Berry Boys ABC staged
a fine 19-bout open show at their
regular well-appointed venue, James
Hornsby High School, before a large
and appreciative audience.
Matchmaker Danny Linger provided
his usual large amount of quality fistic
fare, which saw the homesters win
six out of the eight; while Hoxton's
Lion club, also still linked with Linger,
enjoyed a hat-trick of successes.
