Boxing News Magazine 2011  History

AMIR KHAN has one of the weapons
that works against a southpaw, the
straight right hand, so that bodes well
for him against Zab Judah this weekend.
He's also younger, seems to be growing
into his position and becoming more
confident along the way. He's growing
into being a champion. You would think
he would continue to grow, too. Obviously
Judah is at the twilight of his career and
usually there is not an upside for that. It
is what it is, what it's been and maybe
there are some diminishing returns but
the interesting thing about Zab is that
mentally and emotionally he seems a little
bit more comfortable with himself, a little
bit more together, a little more defined.
That was always the question about him,

SURELY David Haye cannot retire with
the shame of the Klitschko defeat hanging
over his head. After all Haye's pre-fight
shenanigans and bravado, Haye proved
that, unlike Muhammad Ali, his mouth was
a lot bigger than his heart!
Maybe a fight with the similar-sized
Alexander Povetkin or Tomasz Adamek
in the States would go some way towards
regaining the respect of the boxing
world, not to mention the loyal fans who
travelled to Germany and those who paid
good money, only to be repaid with a
shambles.

Amir admits that this rematch will happen one
day, and because of the nature of Khan's kamikaze
demise in their first fight, it would certainly sell.
If he is to tackle the Colombian again, though, he
could do with getting it out of the way sooner rather
than later, Khan deserves better than to forever be
saddled with such a dark cloud,

CHANGE AT HBO
THE President of HBO Sports,
Ross Greenburg, one of the most
influential men in boxing, has left
his position with the TV network.
Some reports incorrectly
suggested he had been fired,
insisting his failure to keep Manny
Pacquiao on the network for his
May fight with Shane Mosley and
decision to pass on several of the
Klitschko brothers' fights cost him
his position.

KUTSCHKOS' GRIEF
THE father of heavyweight
champions Vitali and Wladimir
Klitschko, Vladimir Rodionovich
Klitschko, died in Kiev, Ukraine,
after a long illness last week. He
was 64.
A former colonel in the Soviet
Union's air force, he died from
lymph node cancer. Stationed near
Chernobyl during the 1986 nuclear
disaster he was part of the team
that helped in the clean-up.
