Boxing News Magazine 2011 Memorabilia

MANNY PACQUIAO has become a
phenomenon. He has been consistent in
the ring, he is humble, he conducts his
work in a professional manner and that
has all contributed to him becoming the
superstar he is.
He looks at boxing as life and I, like so
many others, enjoy watching his fights.
Juan Manuel Marquez has put him
through two hard battles and when you
see how easily Floyd Mayweather Jnr
defeated him it instantly makes you
wonder what a Mayweather and Pacquiao
fight would be like.

MUHAMMAD ALI led the tributes
to Joe Frazier after the former
heavyweight king lost his battle
with liver cancer. The pair will
forever be linked thanks to their
unforgettable ring trilogy, opened
by Frazier beating Ali in March
1971.

ERRATIC heavyweight Andrew
Golota has expressed an interest
in returning to the sport yet again
after spending the last few months
getting into fighting shape on
Chicago's south side under the
guidance of local trainer Sam
Colonna. At the age of 43, and
without a victory since 2008,
the marketable Pole has caught
the eye of fellow veteran Larry
Donald. At 44, the American is
back in training with a view to a
comeback that would lead to Golota.
Meanwhile, another of yesterday's
heavyweight heroes, former WBO
champion Serhei Liakhovich, has
undertaken two weeks training
with Floyd Mayweather Snr. The
35-year-old, who lost to Robert
Helenius in August, plans to return
to Las Vegas for further sessions
with Mayweather at the end of
November.

FOLLOWING his masterful display against
Australian warrior Michael Katsidis on
Saturday night (November 5), Coatbridge's
Ricky Burns is now a marked man in
the lightweight division. While there are
options for Ricky to pursue internationally,
there are also potential opponents on
British shores.
One such fighter who has been touted
as a future challenger to the Scotsman is
Dagenham's Kevin Mitchell. The 27-yearold
was highly impressed by Burns' latest
performance and would relish having the
opportunity to face him.

AMERICANS whitewashed! Britain's
Greatest Victory. So screamed the
headline above our report of GB's historic
10-0 triumph at Wembley Pool.
Broughton called it, "the most fantastic
international match I've ever seen"
and added, "The Yanks were harassed,
humbled and humiliated by our boys, who
were up against the cream of the United
States."
