Russell tunes up for Feeney

FOREMAN UPSETS FARRELL

Record purse for Sims v McGuigan

Kemp shocked by Kinsella

FIERCE action from a gruelling battle as George Feeney (left) and Ray
Cattouse battled each other to a near standstill for the British lightweight
title. Feeney claimed Cattouse's title with a 14th round stoppage win.

PROMOTER Stephen Eastwood has paid
a record purse for a British title fight in
Ireland in order to secure the STEVE
SIMS v BARRY McGUIGAN British
featherweight title fight.
The precise details of the purse will not
be revealed but it is believed to be in five
figures.

FIGHTER number four is European featherweight champion
PAT COWDELL. He began his year in the wake of a
heroic stand against the ill-fated Salvador Sanchez in
Houston, Texas, when against all odds he took the great
champion to a split decision.
Cowdell's first fight in 1982 brought him the European
crown to add to his British laurels. He met champion
Salvatore Melluzzo of Italy at Wembley in March.
Cowdell was less than sparkling, but Melluzzo was an
awkward southpaw who rushed in wildly, swinging wide
punches and was as strong as a bull.
