BRITISH middleweight champion Tony Sibson has an
unenviable first defence when he tries to beat back the
challenge of veteran former champ Kevin Finnegan at
the Albert Hall on Tuesday.
It's a fight where Sibson has little to gain and everything
to lose. If he beats Finnegan there won't, in
retrospect, be much credit for defeating a man who's
been dropping results to younger fighters all over the
world.
ROBERTO DURAN, Panama's former undefeated
world lightweight champion, now fighting
as a welterweight, looked sluggish in
winning a 10-round unanimous decision over
6ft tall Zeferino Gonzalez of Pico Rivera, sloppy fight with Duran, whose body had a
California.
GEORGE FEENEY turned in a solid performance to gain
revenge over Wolverhampton's Bingo Crooks who he
outpointed over eight threes at the Midland SC.
IRELAND'S boxers look like having one of their busiest
ever seasons ahead, with matches against America,
Hungary, West Germany, and the annual internationals
against Scotland and Wales.
Irish competitors will also take part in multi-nation
tournaments in Vienna and East Berlin.
