ABA will pursue Hungary controversy

ROBERTO DURAN, the man they called Stone
Fists, the man in whom burned a cold, merciless
desire for victory, astounded the boxing world by
turning human in the New Orleans Superdome.
Duran walked out of his WBC welterweight title rematch
with Sugar Ray Leonard after 2 minutes 44
seconds of the eighth round.
He was not hurt, not bleeding, not out of the fight.
He just lost his temper and quit.

HIGHGATE-BASED Zambian Lotte Mwale follows in the footsteps of gym mate
John Conteh tonight (Friday) when he challenges Matthew Saad Muhammad for
the WBC light-heavyweight crown.
Mwale, 27, enters the San Diego title fight a firm underdog, but U.S. "experts"
should not dismiss him too lightly. Muhammad, formerly Matt Franklin, seems to
be showing the effects of a highly demanding - at times burtal - career: the
African challenger may have caught the champion at just the right time.
Muhammad had to pull out all the stops to outpoint Conteh in an August, '79,
defence - if not for the use of an illegal potion on the champion's badly gashed left
eye, John may well have won on an injury stoppage.
But the return proved a one sided affair, with Conteh folding in four rounds.
In both fights, Muhammad proved something of a disappointment. Conteh
caught him time and again with jabs in the first encounter, before the Philadelphian
stepped into overdrive in the last quarter of the contest.
