ENGLAND TRIO IN WINNING FORM
BUSTER MATHIS won a unanimous
12-rounds points decision
over George Chuvalo in a gory
heavyweight bout at Madison
Square Garden. Chuvalo's features
were considerably marked at the
end. Near to tears, Chuvalo was
led from the ring by his manager,
knowing that he probably will
never again be a too heavyweight
contender.
AFTER a month's search for
an opponent for Rowe,
the middleweight box-office
attraction, that involved visits
to America and the Continent,
Promoter Mike Barrett announced
that the Kent pig
farmer will fight French-
Tunisian Pascal Di Benedetto
at the Albert Hall on Tuesday,
February 25. Rowe interrupted
an American tour to hurry
home to train for this fight.
Benedetto, who is 27 years old,
has beaten Milo Calhoun, who
boxed Johnny Pritchett for the Empire
title last year. He held European
champion Carlos Duran to a
draw in Italy, and earned a return
contest, but was stopped with
mouth injuries.
