WHEN Fabrice Benichou gets into t h e ring against
Paul Hodkinson tomorrow, t h e globetrotting Madridborn
challenger will be pumped up by t h e sound of
his favourite band, AC/DC from Australia.
In Hodkinson, Benichou, who is b o t h loved and
hated, will face a strong and fast technician. Can his
crude style cope with Hodkinson's ability? His fights
against Luis Mendoza (for t h e WBA super-bantam
crown) and more recently Manuel Medina (IBF feather)
say not. But Benichou's story is without a doubt
world class.

CROYDON'S Duke McKenzie will get the opportunity
to become the first British fighter to win "world"
titles at t h r e e different weights next month when he
challenges Detroit-managed but Texas-based WBO
super-bantamweight champion J e s s e Benavides at
Lewisham Theatre on October 15.

NEXT Thursday's British light-middleweight
title clash at Watford Town Hall between Wally
Swift and Northolt's Andy Till tops one of the
best value-for-money promotions for years and
should continue the busy start to the season in
exciting style.

IT'S fair to say that outside of his family, a few Puerto
Rican patriots and the chancers who have put their
money on him to beat Julio Cesar Chavez, nobody
cares too much about Hector Camacho.
This fight, for the World Boxing Council lightwelterweight
championship at the Thomas and
Mack Center, Las Vegas, tomorrow is all about the
legendary Chavez.

SURPRISE but very welcome guest at the September
meeting of the London Ex-Boxers' Association was
former West Ham heavyweight Billy Walker, the
Golden Boy of t h e 60s, who told me that he and his
family had left Jersey permanently, and were now
settled in Camberley. In fact, he is president of the
local Sporting Ring ABC, which has just started.
"We've been in Camberley since Easter," said Billy.
"And we like it very much, I shall enjoy being
involved with amateur boxing again."
