THE best day's work that I ever did." That's the way
Roland Dakin describes the day he applied for his
first referee's licence.
That day was over 40 years ago now, and after 37
years of refereeing and judging professional boxing
at the very highest level, Roland has no regrets.
'If you're lucky enough to get a top license, then
you can have a wonderful life out of boxing," states
Dakin, now happily retired and currently mine host
at the Traveller's Rest in Reading where he's been
settled for the past ten years.

selected first and foremost by the test of
competition in the ring rather than the talk of
committees around a table?
Tim Taylor is the current holder of the ABA
light-middleweight championship of Great Britain.
What's more, he has twice won this title;
he is currently seeded number one by all the
boxing magazines; and he has not been defeated
by another English boxer for nearly three
years.
