A SLOW start and a ninth-round knockdown cost
Duke McKenzie his WBO super-bantamweight title
as he went down on a close 12-round verdict to Puerto
Rican Daniel Jimenez at Lewisham Theatre. It
was the second time McKenzie has lost a WBO title
to an unknown Puerto Rican: Rafael Del Valle took
his bantamweight title last year.

 

BRITISH bantamweight champion Drew Docherty and
his younger brother Wilson Docherty have shared
many accolades throughout their respective amateur
careers, and the trend continued on the last show of
the season at the St. Andrew's Sporting Club.

 

THE career of Andy Till could take another turn for the
better when he challenges Laurent Boudouani of France
for the European light-middleweight title at Picketts Lock
Leisure Centre on Wednesday (June 23).
Northolt milkman Till has already achieved much more
than many believed possible when he turned pro with no
more than a North West London Divs title to his credit.
Grit, determination and sheer hard work have brought
him to a British title and the brink of European glory after
several setbacks which might have finished men of lesser
spirit.

 

IT IS always exciting when a division regenerates.
With James Toney moving up, Gerald McClellan, Roy
Jones and Chris Pyatt taking over and Reggie Johnson
still to make his mark, the middleweight division
is suddenly very much alive. So don't let anyone tell
you boxing is dying. Sick it may be, dead it ain't.
