A BOXING/dancing/dining tournament superbly organised by the
Ballina Club ended with the closest of wins at 6-5 for a Mayo Select
over a Bedford Select at the Downhill Hotel. It was a sell-out with
Olympic gold medallist Michael Carruth, Sean Horkan (Olympic
team manager) and former local top notch star Steve Kennedy as
guests of honour.
In the pick of an entertaining night's boxing Bedford's Andrew
Tomlin pulled off a career-best win with a tight but deserved
majority win over the experienced Gerry Heneghan (Castlebar)
at light-welterweight.
