WHEN one talks about the best and bravest that
Scottish boxing has to offer, the name Gary Murray
is not one that readily springs to mind.
Yet that is precisely what this Renfrew-raised,
Cape Town based welterweight claims to be. It's a
contention that the likes of Gary Jacobs, Pat Clinton
and several others might well contest, but British
fans will soon have the opportunity to judge this 26-
year old, 21-1 (15) southpaw for themselves.

PERNELL WHITAKER must feel he has a hoodoo when he
fights against Mexicans for WBC titles. He was robbed
against Jose Luis Ramirez in 1980 and for my money won
clearly against Julio Cesar Chavez. Pernell keeps his title,
Chavez keeps his unbeaten record, but justice was not
served.

PARISIAN southpaw STEPHANE HACCOUN
won the European featherweight
title when badly-cut champion
MAURIZIO STECCA failed to come out
for round nine at the Sports Palace.
Stecca (8st 13Hlbs) was cut on the right
eyebrow In round two, and despite bright
spells in the third and fifth sessions, had
been worn down by round eight. His corner
refused to let him come out for the
ninth.

NEXT week we serve up a special, bumper 32-page feast for fight fans with our unrivalled
ringside coverage of the Lennox Lewis-Frank Bruno WBC heavyweight title
showdown.
We will have our usual team of ringside writers in Cardiff Arms Park tonight to
bring you the best, most in-depth report on the big flght that you will read ANYWHERE!
And in the same issue, editor Harry Mullan analyses the flght they have labelled
"Judgement Day"... the super-middleweight showdown between Chris Eubank and
Nigel Benn for the WBC and WBO titles.
No one who saw it will forget their epic encounter at the National Exhibition Centre
In 1990. Will the rematch at Old Trafford reach those same magnificent heights?

MEXICO'S Jorge "Maromero" Paez, Boxing's Clown
Prince, m o u n t e d another unforgettable "performance"
at the Great Western Forum, painfully dispatching
bloodied and badly outclassed Eric Madrid
(9st 10 lbs) Sylmar, California after one minute of the
fourth round.
