ASHLEY'S BELFAST WARM-UP
IT WAS really encouraging to read that the Governor of
California has appointed Carlos Palomino to the
Commission. Carlos was a great fighter, and was always
a credit to the sport. He will bring a boxer's viewpoint
into the Commission. Carlos has said that he will try to
do something about mismatches and to convince the
Commission that they should insist on running all
bouts staged in California, and stop the sanctioning
bodies from appointing officials to title bouts held in
the state.

CORNWALL EBA, the most recent Ex-Boxers' Association, formed in
1989, are to hold their first of what we all hope will be many Annual
Reunions at the Capitol Social Club, St Austell, on September 14. The
Guest of Honour will be Tony Penpraze. I am sure the event will gain
support from all the nearby EBAs, like Plymouth, Torquay and
Bournemouth, but it is hoped that other EBAs situated a little farther
away will make the effort to send representatives.

SHEFFIELD'S Slugger O'Toole gets his long awaited
British title chance when he meets Hockley's Ian
Strudwick for the vacant super-middleweight title at
the Basildon Festival Hall on September 24.
If O'Toole wins he will complete a trio of British
titleholders for trainer Brendan Ingle with Johnny
Nelson and Herol Graham already holding the cruiserweight
and middleweight crowns respectively.
