BRITISH and Commonwealth lightweight champion Carl Crook is better
known for his clever boxing ability than his hitting power, but he found the
punches to knock out Bacup's dangerous Brian Roche in 10 rounds in the
chief support on the Eubank-Watson card.
Roche, making his second bid for the Commonwealth title having lost in
five rounds to Mo Hussein on a hand injury in March 1988, was never in the
fight and was way behind when the finish came.

MICHAEL AYERS won the vacant Southern Area
lightweight title in his seventh fight when he
stopped Forest Hill southpaw WAYNE WEEKES
in the sixth of a scheduled 10-rounder.
But the West Londoner was far from impressive
against Weekes, who hadn't fought since a
fifth-round stoppage defeat to Robert Luaretta
in Italy 16 months ago.

ALTHOUGH the WBC International titles continue to
enjoy a fair amount of prestige, the WBC Continental
Americas titles are still struggling to gain recognition of
the 17 titles, six are vacant. Americans hold six titles,
Mexicans two and Canada, the Dominican Republic and
Puerto Rico one each. They have some good champions
such as Pedro Sanchez, Anthony Jones, Ricardo
Cepeda and Armando Salazar, but with the whole of
the American continent to call on it is surprising that
six titles are vacant.
