KEN NORTON, the San Diego heavyweight who shot to fame
this year with two great fights against Muhammad Ali, is to get
a shot against world champion George Foreman.
The fight was originally scheduled for Sao Paulo, Brazil, but
latest indications are that it will take place in Jamaica.
In taking on Norton, Foreman will be yielding at last to the
pressure of public opinion that he should defend against a rated
opponent.
Foreman won the title from Joe Frazier 11 months ago and has
defended only once, an ignominious farce against unrated Joe
"King" Roman in September. Roman was bombed out in two
minutes of a best-forgotten mess.

PARIS  December 17: Fabio Bettini retained his French middleweight title
when he beat Nessim "Max" Cohen on points over 12 rounds at the Palais des
Sports, wrecking Cohen's hopes of forcing a European title fight.

AUSTRIAN light-middleweight Johann Orsolics gave
perhaps his finest performance as he clearly outpointed
the veteran Manuel Gonzalez, now fighting out of Tampa,
Florida, over 10 rounds at the City Hall.

JOE TETTEH, 35-year-old Ghanaian veteran, was
clearly outpointed by French-based Algerian Ould
Makloufi, over 15 rounds for the new All-Africa
lightweight title.

SIX OF Scotland's seven-man team for next month's Commonwealth Games
whitewashed an Ireland-England select on the Dundee St Francis club's dinner-boxing
show in the city's Angus Hotel.

THE Young England squad lived in the shadows of their senior "counterparts when it came to
official training outfits. That was until this week, when like the seniors, they were presented with
track suits and other training clothing which each member of the squad can wear at the Crystal
Palace training weekends. Pictured above is Charlie Magri in a track suit presented by Addidas
and George Gilbody in a Gola training vest  just two of the items presented by the companies.
