EVAN ARMSTRONG is British featherweight
champion again. His needle return match
with former conqueror Tommy Glencross
ended abruptly after three rounds of action when
referee Jim Brimmell ruled that champion Glencross
could not continue because of a deep gash over his
left eye.
JUST five months after that July night in 1951 that brought a near hysteria of
joy to Britain when Randolph Turpin defied all the odds to win the world
middleweight crown from fabulous Sugar Ray Robinson at Earls Court an
embittered fighter disconsolately left Harringay Arena.
BILLY KNIGHT, Lynn's ABA light heavyweight
champion, ended months of speculation about the
weight he will box at when he was named at lightheavyweight
by the England selectors for a Commonwealth
Games trial match at Dunster House on
October 4.
SCOTLAND'S seven-man team for the Commonwealth
