FORMER heavyweight champion Muhammad Ah' outclassed fellow-American
Mac Foster over 15 rounds at the Budokan Hall after failing to live up
to a pre-fight prediction.
Ali, just turned 30, promised that 29-yea r-old Foster would fall in five.
But Ali was unable to fulfil his prophesy, although he gave Foster a systematic beating.
FLOYD PATTERSON, 37 years old and still one of the world's best heavyweights,
is not considering retirement. But he is in no hurry to meet
Joe Frazier, the destructive world champion.
Floyd was in London two weeks ago for a holiday and personal appearances. He
ilso discussed the possibility of fighting here, although negotiations broke down over
terms and choice of opponent.
TWO of Britain's Olympic favourites, Crawley middle Alan Minter and
Repton welter Maurice Hope, went out on injury in the London Championships,
boxed before the usual capacity crowd at the Albert Hall.
They were eliminated in the semi-finals of an event where the action was as hard as
ever, although overall standards did not seem as high as in previous years.
