LES STEVENS, Reading heavy who has the potential to be
British champ, takes another calculated advance when he
meets veteran Spaniard Mariano Echevarria in the main
bout over eight rounds at the Top Rank Suite, Reading,
on Monday.
Stevens, 21-year-old former
ABA champion, has won all
six pro bouts. But his adviser,
wealthy builder Bev Walker,
is a firm believer in the
policy of making haste slowly.

DAVE NEEDHAM, promising
Nottingham bantam, should
notch his 12th straight pro
win when he meets Central
Area feather champ Billy
Hardacre (Liverpool) over
eight rounds at Nottingham's
Great International Sporting
Club on Monday.

RALPH CHARLES, a good pro by British standards, knows he will have to
fight above himself to wrest the world welter crown from Mexican idol
Jose Napoles at Wembley on Tuesday.

MAURICE O'SULLIVAN
(Roath Youth) boxed
beautifully to clearly outpoint
Michael Pickett
(Courthouse) in a sizzling
Welsh flyweight final at the
Municipal Hall.
O'Sullivan's clash with
Pickett was the highlight of
the Welsh championships,
thoroughly enjoyed by a
capacity crowd.
