BRITISH light-middleweight champion Larry Paul
smashed his way to his 13th straight professional
win when he knocked out Mickey Flynn of
Manchester in the first round of their non-title fight
at the Civic Hall. Flynn was floored three times and
was marked above the right eye.

GEORGE FOREMAN can
be beaten by a good boxer.
Remember Greg P e r a l ta
t o o k him to a points
d e c i s i o n . P e r a l t a is not
e x a c t l y young, but as I
recall he was the faster and
fitter man at the end.
Now a certain man is faster,
hits hcirder and is harder to hit
than Peralta. His name, of
course, is Muhammad Ali.

DAVE DAVIES, 25-year-old Bangor Ughtmiddleweight,
could be just one fight away from a
crack at Larry Paul's British championship.

ONLY 23 boxers entered for
the Gloucestershire, Somerset
and Wiltshire championships
at the Education and Leisure
Centre. The disappointing
turn-out left five of them,
including England light-welter
Malcolm Jones, of Hartcliffe,
with walkovers.
The only major upset was
the defeat of Western Counties
feather champion Maurice
Lawrence, of Hartcliffe, by
rangey Weston-super-Mare
southpaw Terry Keight.
