STEVE ANGELL was born to be a fighter. His
father, Mick, was a good class welterweight about
twenty years ago, and both his grandfather Charlie
Angell and great-grandfather Hutchinson boxed
professionally.

JOSE DURAN of Spain
captured the European
light-middleweight title
when he outpointed
defending champion
Jacques Kechichian, of
France, over 15 rounds.

BRITISH fans, and especially
those from Wales, will never
forget the night of January 23,
1968. On that night the incomparable
Howard Winstone, the
pride of Merthyr Tydfil, won
the world featherweight
championship that had eluded
him for so long.

As in the two previous
under-21 championships
England captured three
medals. Each time they
were all bronze, but this
time England's light-fly
Charlie Magri (Arbour
Youth) made sure we
secured our first silver
medal alongside two
bronzes won by George
Gilbody (Golden Gloves)
and Kirkland Laing (Clifton).
