THE chips are down for John Conteh and Chris Finnegan in Tuesday's intriguing
three-title light-heavyweight championship fight at Wembley.
Whoever wins has been promised a crack at Bob Foster's world title at
Wembley on September 10, asun]ing. Foster takes care of Jorge Ahumada in
Albuquerque next month. This is the big incentive for them both.

GEORGE TURPIN, Liverpool, looked every
inch a future British champion with a brilliant three
rounds defeat of Frankie Taberner, Blackpool,
on the annual JNF banquet show at the Adelphi
Hotel.

ABA bantamweight finalist
Wayne Evans (Waterlooville)
is turning professional at the
end of the month, his father
and trainer Gwyn announced
this week.
The 19-year-old from
Hampshire and brother of
Olympic bronze medallist
Ralph, is still considering
several offers and will not
decide until he has thought
carefullv about them.
The decision, said his father,
was prompted by the Welsh
ABA's complaint to the ABA
that Wayne should not be
allowed to wear a Welsh international
vest in the ABA
finals at Wembley.
