THE European Boxing Union, some of whose recent
decisions have been almost inexplicable, have done it again,
Dante Cane, the 34-year-old Italian heavyweight
champion, has been nominated as official contender for Joe
Bugner's heavyweight title, a ruling which is even more
incomprehensible than their snub to British champions Pat
McCormack and Evan Armstrong when naming the
European light-welterweight and featherweight contenders
earlier this month.

JOE FRAZIER had just pounded out a convincing points victory over Joe Bugner,
and not even Andy Smith had made a murmur of protest against the verdict.
Harry Gibbs, the man who moments earlier had confirmed the American's win,
was climbing down the ring steps when an irate Bugner fan, who looked a better
judge of beer than of boxing, blocked his path.
