EMERGING from an action-packed
2013 with victories over Miickel
Kessler and George Groves in
the two biggest British fights
of the year, Carl Froch is set
to decide his next move after
Christmas,
His trainer, Rob McCracken
acknowledges Froch has options,
including the rematch with
Groves, but sees no need to
rush his decision. "People tend
to really enjoy a good grudge
match Where's there's no love
lost between the two fighters,"
Rob said. "There's potential there
for another fight [between Froch
and Groves]."

UITALI KLITSCHKO'S decision to vacate
the WBC heavyweight title has been
welcomed by leading British contenders
Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury.
Klitschko, 42 and inactive for 15 months,
has decided to focus all his attention on
a burgeoning political career in his native
Ul<raine.
"It's about time he left the belt, he
wasn't fighting nobody," said Chisora,
ranl<ed number six by the governing body.
"Now the real fighters can fight for it."
Bermane Stiverne, the current
leading contender, is involved in
litigation with promoter Don King that
may rule him out of a shot at the vacant
belt. That could see number-two-rated
Chris Arreoia (who lost to Stiverne in

FORMER All Black
Sonny Bill Williams
has been stripped
of the WBA
International and
NZPBA heavyweight
titles after failing
to defend them.
Williams is eyeing a
return to rugby union
in 2015 hoping to be
part of New Zealand's
World Cup defence,
and also feature in
the national Seveiis
team at the 2016
Olympics in Rio.

THE Female ABA championship
finals took place at Brentwood
Youth ABC in Essex from December
14-15. Sandy Ryan, from One
Nation ABC, impressed with her
lightweight victory over the Army's
Alanna Murphy-Wynn.
Another one to watch is
Islington's Hazel Gale, who
imposed her boxing on Derby
City's Gemma Smith to win a clear
unanimous decision. "There were
fierce exchanges between the two,"
Islington coach Bevis Allen said.
"Gale circled the ring, and
constantly caught Smith as she
came rushing in. Southpaw Smith
posed a few problems throughout,
but Gale always looked a couple of
steps ahead."
Carly Ogogo, the sister of
Olympic bronze medallist Anthony,
picked up a national title in the
Class C category.

TWO weeks after the Carl Froch-
George Groves stoppage left him
fuming, trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick
was angry again after his superheavyweight
Luke Watkins was
beaten in the Class A final.
Watkins jabbed his way into a
points lead against Przem Pozniak
(Newark) before a flurry of body
punches forced him to take a knee
late in the second. Luke pulled
himself up quickly and referee
Chris Roberts waved it off.
