TYSON FURY says he will be ready to
risk a No. 1 ranking with the WBC to meet
David Price in order to make the clash of
big British heavyweights a reality. Fury
fights in Belfast on December 1 against
an opponent who is set to be announced
next week and victory will elevate him
to the top spot to challenge for Vitali
Klitschko's WBC title.
jUllO CESAR CHAVEZ
JNR has had his
Nevada state licence
suspended pending
a hearing, after he
tested positive for
marijuana following
hislZ-round WBC
middleweight
title loss to
Sergio Martinez in
September. He could
be fined his entire
$3m purse for the
fight and faces an
extended ban, as
this is the Mexican's
second positive test.
HEAVYWEIGHT Richard Towers
boxes lucas Browne on December
1 1 with the bout taking place in
Hong Kong as Hatton Promotions
look to branch out into the Far East.
The pair are friends having
sparred each other but, "It's one of
those things that we have to do,"
Towers acknowledged.
He continued, "We're both
professional and we'll both be
going in there looking to win and
progress."
MAES G ABC staged a show on
October 6, with Wirral Community
Police ABC's Mason Cartwright
renewing his rivalry with Jimmy
Egan's Kofle Yates. The latter
already had a points win over the
Wirral boxer but Cartwright went
forward from the first bell, using
stiff straight shots mixed with
spiteful uppercuts in close. Yates'
left hook stayed dangerous but
Mason's accuracy and controlled
aggression were key.
Kofie swamped Cartwright
in the second round but Mason
got back to his boxing the third
and ran out a unanimous points
winner as well as being the
Boxer of the Night.
The best schoolboy was Maes
G's Tony Riley, who showed
great speed of hand and foot to
counter Kyle Rigby, Dyffryn,
and win unanimously.
His clubmate Jordan Bell
edged Ben Jordan, Llandudno,
on majority. Kevin Riley, Maes
G, swung at Liam Richardson
but the Dyffryn boxer took a lead
which he never relinquished.
Jared O'Conell forced the
pace against Jack Rogers, Deva,
and the volume of his attack
brought him a majority decision.
Light-middleweight Andrew
Howarth took a unanimous
decision over Deva's Darren
Seago. At cruiserweight both
Barmouth's Keiron Thomas
and Deva's Marie Sullivan were
disqualified after one round of
their bout.
