EDDIE HEARN is at loggerheads
with Golden Boy Promotions over
where Kell Brook will make
his mandatory challenge to IBF
welterweight champion Devon
Alexander. On October 20,
Matchroom's Brook impressively
halted Hector Saldiva in a final
eliminator in Sheffield hours before
Alexander decisioned Randall
Bailey to take the title in New York,
If the pair can't agree on terms
before November 22 it will go to
purse bids.
"If we have to go to America
then we will," Hearn said, "but
it's my job as Kell's promoter to
give him as many advantages as
possible and that would be a UK
fight. I'm prepared to go to purse
bids and we won't necessarily
win, but we know we can probably
sell out the Manchester Arena,
definitely the Sheffield Arena and
we've got big backing from Sky
and our international broadcast
partners. We're at a disadvantage
because of the 75-25 split in
Alexander's favour. I think Kell
can beat him anywhere and his
confidence is through the roof; he's
happy to fight wherever."
New Matchroom signing Galium
Smith will make his pro debut on
the Carl Froch-Yusaf Mack show in
Nottingham on November 17.

DAVID COLDWELL, former Central
Area flyweight champion and
burgeoning promoter, has added
an excellent matchup to his
December 7 Bowlers clash, pitting
his prospect Kieran Farrell
against former British lightweight
champion Anthony Crolla
- The 10-rouner,"for the vacant
English title, is testament to a
desire to make appealing contests.
"Although I've got to look out
for my fighters' best interests, I'll
still step them up when the time is
right if the fight makes sense - and
this is a fight that makes a lot of
sense from every possible angle,"
said Coldwell, who is grateful to
Hatton Promotions for allowing
Crolla to take this fight,
"Kieran wants to get to British
level, Anthony needs to get back
there - from a fan's point of view,
what more could you ask for?"
New signing, Macclesfield's
22-year-old Liam Hanrahan, will
have his second contest on a bill
that also features Derry Mathews.

FRANK WARREN is furious about
the confusion that surrounded
Nathan Cleverly's November 10
Los Angeles opponent but was "100
per cent sure" the Welshman would
fight. Ryan Coyne, the original
challenger, was vetoed because he
did not feature in the WBO Top 15,
leaving the opponent unknown as
Cleverly flew to the States.
"We've wasted a lot of time on
this," said Warren, "and Nathan
deserves better."

TOURNAMENT competition returned
to the Merseyside amateur scene
on October 19 as the finals of
the NACYP championship were
held before an enthused crowd at
Liverpool's Alsop Sports Centre.
Hopes of national success rank high
amongst the region's clubs and this
optimism was displayed in doses
following a number of impressive
displays.
Everton Red Triangle had a night
to remember as they registered
three victories including that
of decorated youngster, Peter
McCrall, who wasted no time in
getting his championship campaign
off to the ideal start with a first
round victory over Warrington's Jake
Jameson. The latter had no answer.
to McCrail's speedy bursts and it
was a heavy barrage on the ropes
that forced the third man to call a
sensible stoppage.
Joining McCraH In the North West
finals are clubmates, Andrew Cain
and Uince Holligan, who both
worked tirelessly for their wins over
resilient opposition. Cain renewed
old rivalries with Rotunda's Ryan
Briscoe and it was his ferocious
workrate that brought him a clear
victory. It was the same energy from
Holligan that gained him the verdict
versus Knowsley Vale's Louis
Edwards.
There was some cheer for the
KIrkby-based club later in the
evening as they registered two
victories via the excellent Tom
Aitchlson and Danny Sullivan
The former's accuracy was too much
for Rotunda's Jamie Small, whilst
Sullivan was pushed hard by West
Wirral's Steve Williams before
earning a majority verdict from the
ringside judges.
There was also double joy for
Kirkby ABC thanks to the industry of
Luke Ackers and Harry Woods.
Ackers had to put sentiment to
one side as he had to overcome
the obstacle of gymmate, Kieren
Byrom. For Woods, he had to
remove the threat of Sefton's
Jack Williams. Both passed their
respective tasks in workmanlike
fashion.
The ruthlessness of Jake
Cotsopoulous was the telling
factor in his battle with Sefton's
Jack Dobbin. The Higherside boxer
set a fast pace from the outset and
his stamina was awarded when the
action was brought to a halt halfway
through round three.
Also excelling were Baz
Dambadarja and Suraj Sdmra,
who both put in fine performances
against stubborn opposition.
Gemini's Dambadarja was pushed
all the way by Rotunda's Brian
Phillips on his way to victory and
it was a similar story for Birkenhead
Venture's Suraj Samra, who
remained focused throughout to
see off Everton Red Triangle youth,
Lewis Donnelly
