non-title 10-rounder at Dublin's
National Stadium on December 5
against Uruguay's RAFAEL SOSA
PINTOS, 34-4 (13). Macklin's

Two Irish title fights on the card

rematch with EUGENE HEAGNEY
and ANTHONY FITZGERALD and
LEE MURTAGH fighting for the
vacant super-middleweight strap.
Macklin's mandatory defence
against unbeaten Russian DIMITRIY
PIROG will be promoted by the
Hattons, probably in January.
Meanwhile, JAMIE MOORE wants
a rematch with Mackiin, and you
can read about that at
www.boxingnewsonline.net.
UGANDAN featherweight JACKSON

of the Craig Christian camp in
Perth, Western Australia alongside
WBA featherweight champion Chris
John. The 31-year-old challenges
for the vacant IBO featherweight

experienced Mexican HERIBERTO
RUIZ, 42-8-2 (24) over 12 rounds.
Asiku has been sparring John and
IBF No. 4 feather Oriando Salido.
"We have enjoyed some serious
sessions," said Asiku. "I am ready
to tear Ruiz to pieces."
CRAIG WATT
HOVE ABC staged a s h ow for Help
For Heroes at the Hilton Metropole in
Brighton on October 31. All the
money raised went to the HFH fund.
In attendance at this well-organised
event - run by Scott Welch - were
Tim Witherspoon, Chris Eubank and
Lennox Lewis.
Host club welterweight Lloyd
Ellett was on the right side of a
majority decision (3 x 3s) against
Gavin McGee.
"Hove boxers are all strong,"
recognised Army coach Tony Davis.
"I thought Gav did enough, but it
was close."
Another soldier w h o went down on
points (also 3 x 3s) was Steve
Sweeney, beaten unanimously by
Golden Ring southpaw Tommy
Watson at light-welter.
"It was fair enough," said Davis of
the decision. "Steve used the wrong
tactics, moving in with his hands low,
and got caught."
The Army squad had boxed the
night before (October 30) in Cardiff,
winning a team match 4-2. Matt Wells
and Shane Sadler won but Kyle
Wisnewski lost.
Next up for t h e Army is a s h ow in
Swansea on Thursday (November 12),
a day before the London match.
