EDINBURGH'S former WBO superfeatherweight
champion Alex
Arthur is hoping to kickstart the
second phase of his career on the
Amir Khan-Dmitriy Salita show on
December 5 in Newcastle. "Amazing"
Alex meets an as-yet unnamed
opponent in a non-title 10-rounder
and aims to come in at around lOst.
"For this fight I'll be coming in
around my natural weight a week
prior to the fight," Arthur said.
"But for championship fights, I will
definitely be at lightweight.
With Kevin Mitchell facing Breidis
Prescott on the same Newcastle show
(see above), WBO No. 3 Arthur could
be forgiven for using the occasion
as a scouting mission, with a view
to facing the winner.
IN the latest round of Boardordered
purse bids, much work was
done to ascertain who is Britain's
best domestic heavyweight. DANNY
WILUAMS must defend the British
title against SAM SEXTON and
the rematch between English
champion TYSON FURY and JOHN
MCDERMOTT has also gone out
to bids, with the two winners likely
to clash next year.
The only other bid put out was
for the winner of November 27
British light-middleweight title
fight between ANTHONY SMALL
(champion) and THOMAS
McDONAGH to face SAM WEBB
[be/owl, who outpointed McDonagh
in an eliminator in May.
All purse bids are asked for by
December 8, with the fights to take
place by the end of February 2009.
FEMAL£ light-welterweight RITA
FIGUEROA was hospitalised and
underwent brain surgery after
losing a close sbt-round decision to
KITA WATKINS last Friday (November
6) at the UlC Pavilion in Chicago.
The hometown girl had been
dropped in the second round.
Figueroa's condition is much
improved, according to reports.
She is expected to make a
complete recovery and leave
hospital any day now.
THE recent GB v USA theme, which

fundraising dinner show (for the
"Atlantic Cup") at the Royal Lancaster
