EDDIE MUSTAFA MUHAMMAD'S
cruiser prospect AARON WILLIAMS
has been preparing for iiis May 9
figlit witli Cuban YOAN PABLO
HERNANDEZ by sparring lightheavyweight
liing CHAD DAWSON.
Williams takes on Hernandez at
the Jako Arena in Bramberg,
Germany, and believes sparring the
champ will benefit him in Europe.
"I know [Hernandezl's highly
rated but I take every fight the
same," said Williams. "Sparring
with Chad helps a lot because he's
a tall southpaw like Hernandez. I
helped Chad get ready for his first
title win and now we're helping
each other out."
Eddie Mustafa also trains
Dawson - who meets ANTONIO
TARVER again next week (May 9) -
at Johnny Tocco's Gym in Las
Vegas.
LIVERPOOL light-heavyweight Joey
Ainscough suffered serious injuries
when he was stabbed repeatedly in
Walton last weekend.
Sadly, the 29-year-old former ABA
champion has retired from the sport
as a result of his injuries, but the
results could have been a lot worse.
Ainscough suffered a punctured
bowel, bladder and rectum during
the incident.
Ainscough told the Liverpool Echo:
"I thought I was dead on the spot.
I couldn't believe the pain.
"I had been having a few drinks
with my mates to celebrate Everton
getting into the FA Cup final and we
saw a scuffle. I went over and tried to
stop these two lads fighting.
"I was speaking to one of the lads
and another came out of nowhere
with this big knife and put it through
me twice from behind.
"I will never be allowed to fight
again because of a scumbag who
carries a knife. But I'm just glad to be
alive."
Merseyside Police are investigating
the attack.
Ainscough finishes at 6-2-1 (0).
JOE HAM followed his gold medal and
Best Boxer award in Finland with
another gold, plus the Best Final prize,
at the Franco Blagonic youth
tournament in Rijeka, Croatia (April
16-18).
The Scotland team finished second
overall behind Russia with all seven
boxers securing a medal. Josh Taylor
also won gold, at 57 kgs.
A sparkling third-round stoppage
of Damjan Herljevic (Croatia)
secured Ham a place in the final
against Edgar Walth (Germany), who
had defeated favourite Sergey
Krasnitskiy (Russia) in the other 54
kgs semi-final.
Ham was simply too good for the
German in a pulsating final, pulling
away for a 22-10 victory.
Taylor followed Ham into the ring
on finals day and scored a fine 12-8
victory over David Kanalas
(Hungary). Josh had defeated Italy's
Bruno Licheri 9-0 in the quarterfinals
before a fine 11-5 win over
Arthur Bril (Germany) booked his
place in the final.
