THE fight between MANNY
PACQUIAO and RICKY HAHON that
seemed set for May 2 has been
thrown into doubt after the Filipino
reportedly asked for a large split of
the purse.
His Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum,
confirmed this week that Pacquiao
was back in the Philippines and that
a deal was still being "finalised."
It is thought that Pacquiao has
baulked at an Initial 50-50
agreement in favour of taking a 60
per cent slice.
But Hatton's lawyer, Gareth
Williams, argued Hatton brought as
much to the table as the pound-forpound
star and said Team Hatton
were prepared to consider their
options unless Pacquiao accepted
an equal split.
"Manny is massive in the
Philippines, but thousands of
Filipinos aren't going to travel to
Las Vegas or pay £15 a head to
watch it on pay-per-view," Williams
told the BBC.
"Do they honestly believe
Pacquiao-[Floyd] Mayweather is
going to do significantly more payper-
view figures than a Pacqulao-
Hatton fight? I don't think it will.
"But the ball's in their court. We
think we're being reasonable and
we're not going to be messed about."
Williams said Hatton couM take
legal action If the fight did not go
ahead. "As far as we are concerned
we have a binding contract."
