FORMER British super-flyweight
champion ANDY BEU has been
suspended following a positive
drugs test after losing the title to
Lee Haskins last November.
Sports Resolution (UK) and the
National Anti-Doplng Panel decided
that Bell was guilty of taking
cannabis.
The penalty imposed was a
six-month suspension from
November 27-May 26 2009.
Bell did not dispute the results.
"I'm really sorry," he said. "I'm
gutted and it'll never happen again.
I'll be staying in the gym and I'll
come back stronger."
Bell was down to fight
Commonwealth champion DON
BROADHURST on February 28 but
has been replaced by Ghana's
ISAAC OWUSU.

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS has taken on
the vastly experienced Jimmy Tibbs as
his new pro trainer and will now be
based at the Peacock Gym in Canning
Town.
Originally, Saunders' amateur coach
Danny Hoy was planning to turn pro
with his charge, but he has now
stepped aside for personal reasons.
Hoy needs to take a full-time job to
support his family and this left him
with too little time to give Saunders.
"It was either Joe or the job," said
Hoy. "And I have to think of my future.
If I can't give 100 per cent, it's not fair
on Joe.
"I offered my advice in the future but
no-one's spoken to me since. I wish
him well though: He's got the talent."
Tibbs, who was edged out by Jim
McDonnell as James DeGale's trainer,
has worked with a host of successful
British fighters, including world
champions Nigel Benn, Lloyd
Honeyghan, Frank Bruno and Barry
McGuigan.

WILUE UMOND has been granted
a promoter's licence and the
Glaswegian's debut promotion -
co-promoted with Katherine
Morrison - sees him top the bill
on February 27 against Zambian
GODWIN MUTAMPUKA, 12-2-2 (6),
for the vacant WBU lightweight tHIe
at the Lagoon Leisure Centre,
Paisley. Limond's company is
called Glasgow City Promotions.
Former British welterweight
champion KEVIN MclNTYRE will fight
in his hometown of Paisley for the
first time in his career on the show.

AMATEUR Boxing Scotland chief
Donald Campbell hailed the bravery of
Robbie McKee after his recent display
in a team match at Tampere, Finland.
The Fauldhouse light-welterweight
collided with a dressing room door
only a few minutes before his bout
against Ville Numminen, yet went
ahead with the bout and stopped the
Finn in the second round.
Said Campbell, "I was at first loath to
let Robbie box but our medical officer
okayed it. Robbie stopped Numminen
with a barrage of punches."
Campbell also praised former
Scottish senior featherweight champion,
Darren Traynor who, having
stepped up to 60 kgs, stopped Jesse
Karjalanen (Finland) in two rounds.
At light-heavyweight Galium
Johnson's 2-1 majority points victory
over Toni Tissari helped the visitors
draw 3-3 with their Finnish hosts.
The ABS boss had a special word of
praise for Glasgow's McNair
Dennistoun bantamweight Joe Ham,
who dropped a 2-1 majority verdict to
Matti Koota.
"This was an epic tussle between two
talented fighters with the same will-towin,"
said Campbell. "That explains the
closeness of the verdict. For me Joe was
outstanding in defeat."
