BRITISH lightweight champion
JOHN MURRAY could be about to
land a Stateside clash with lanky
Colombian banger BREIDIS
PRESCOTT, the man who ended
Amir Khan's unbeaten record in
54 seconds.
The projected contest would be
televised on Showtime and
Murray's trainer Joe Gallagher
confirmed John is interested.
"He's saying, 'Show me the
mone/," Gallagher said. "We're
interested and we'd like John out
at the end of March, beginning of
April."
Frank Warren could prove an
obstacle to the fight, however,
as he insists he has Prescott under
contract and that the Colombian's
projected February 20 Horida fight
against Humberto Toledo is off as a
result.
THE 19-year-ald son of former twotime
world title challenger Herol
Graham was shot in the head in a
Sheffield nightclub car park on
Monday (February 9) night.
Oliver Graham has survived the
attack, but was waiting for surgery
at Northern General Hospital as we
went to print.
Herol told the Sheffield Star he
believed the attack had to do with
gangs, though distanced his son
from such activity.
"Bomber" said his son is only
alree because the shooting was from
long distance with pellets going into
Oliver's head but not his brain.
ONE week after they hosted the
Australians in a team match (BN
Feb 6) St Paul's held an open show
at the club's premises in Hull.
Some 14 host club boxers
performed from schoolboy to senior.
St Paul's schoolboys Luke Smalley,
Max Willis, Connor Tommins and
Luke Bowe all produced impressive
winning performances.
The club's National Golden Gloves
finalist Connor Coghill (14/33 kgs)
again showed potential with a punchperfect
points victory over highly
rated David Bate (Sunderland).
Youngsters Kai Weymes, Luke
Cook and Chris Simpson also stood
out.
St Paul's seniors excited their many
supporters with a variety of skill,
power and attrition.
Vincent Collingwood (22/85 kgs)
scored his third consecutive stoppage
when Welsh opponent Steve Byrd did
not come out for the second round.
An outstanding junior, Vince is one
to watch.
Tommy "Boom Boom" Coyle
(19/60 kgs) did the double, after
securing team victory against the
Australian team the previous week.
He again showed why he was a
double national junior champion,
producing a classy powerful
winning performance in stopping
Manchester's Andy Delaney in round
three.
The pressure tactics of Alex Hall "
(25/84 kgs) put Bradford's 6ft 7ins
Dean Garher in negative run-andhold
mode.
Garber's undefeated record
definitely seemed over, so the
majority decision in his favour
was amazing.
Other quality performances came
from Steve Newlove, John Black and
Andy Holmes.
St Paul's are looking to secure trips
to Spain and Holland later this year.
A SELECT team from London's North
East Division beat a Guernsey team 6-2
on the Amalgamated BC dinner show at
the Park Hotel, St Peter Port in
Guernsey on January 30.
Lion's ace matchmaker and Division
President, Danny Linger, made the
matches, while team manager was
Newham's Tommy Smith, who said the
weekend visit to the Channel Islands
was a great success. A return is mooted
for later in the spring.
The host club's cruiserweight Matt
Jennings (31) was left without a bout,
while Repton welter Michael
Channing lost a close one.
