AS we were in the final stages of
going to press on Wednesday
evening there came the shocit news
that DAVID HAVE had pulled out of
his challenge to WLADIIVIIR
KLITSCHKO for the IBF, WBO and
IBO heavyweight titles.
The fight was set for the Veltins
Arena in Geisenklrchen, Germany
on June 20. The 70,000-seat
open-air venue was sold out.
But the website of Setanta
Sports, who were to televise the
fight in the UK, reported that Haye
had been forced to pull out of the
big fight because of an injury,
although without specifying the
nature of the problem. Sky's
website cites a hand injury.
"I am very disappointed,"
Kiitschko said. "I've been in
training camp for weeks. I don't
want to disappoint the fans in
Schaike and I am willing to fight a
different opponent."

THE talented Walsh brothers from
Cromer in Norfolk - super-bantam
Michael (24) and 22-year-old twins,
lightweight Liam and featherweight
Ryan - have been cleared of grievous
bodily harm with intent.
The trio had been accused of
attacking Dale Brammall, known as
Graham, in October.
During the trial at Norwich Crown
Court, Mr Brammall claimed he had
been talking to the boxers' mother
Michelle when her three sons attacked
him like a "pack of wolves" in their
home, and that they were armed with
baseball bats, a hammer and a knife.
It was also alleged that Michael had
used pepper spray on Mr Brammall.
The court was also told that Mr
Brammall had gone to the Walsh
residence after hearing rumours
that Liam had been involved in a
relationship with a girl who had been
out with Mr Brammall's stepson.
However, the brothers told the court
they had not used any weapons and
had been acting in self-defence, simply
trying to remove Mr Brammall from
their home.
The brothers, all trained by Graham
Everett and promoted by Frank
Warren, are next out on June 27
at the 0 2 Arena on the Amir Khan-
Andreas Kotelnik bill.

IBF featherweight champion
CRISTOBAL CRUZ goes back in with
fellow Mexican JORGE SOUS, on
June 27 at the El Palenque in
Tuxtia Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico.
The challenger holds a clear 10-
round points victory over Cruz from
way back in December 2003. The
32-year-old champion is currently
riding a four-fight winning streak
including winning and once
defending the title.
He also has a home advantage of
sorts as Cruz was born in Jiquipilas
in the southern state of Chiapas.
Solis, whose only defeat was to
Manny Pacquiao in 2007, is from
Guadalajara.
The 29-year-old challenger
earned his shot by stopping touted
American Monty Meza Clay in a
January eliminator.
The undercard includes a quality
10-rounder at welter, as Mexican
punchers GABRIEL MARTINEZ, 21-
1-1 (131 and MICHEL R0SAL£S,
19-3 (17) meet.
Featherweight ARTURO SANTOS
REYES, the 2008 Mexican Olympian
and World Junior silver medallist
who makes his pro debut on June
19 in Laredo, Texas, should also
appear on the show.

MAYBE it was the superb weather, or
perhaps because it was the end of a long
season, but only a small crowd attended
New Addington's open show at the
Arnhem Gallery in the Fairfield Halls.
They saw a South East London team
lose 7-5 to a St Saviour's (Dublin) select
in the latest instalment of a rivalry that
has gone on, home and away, for
several years. Boxing was of variable
standards, but the club circuit keeps the
game going and organiser Terry
Gillam's efforts deserved a better
response.
Most significant bout was the 3 x 3s
that saw rated Ciaran Bates beat
Earlsfield's London ABA lightweight
semi-finalist Ricky Boylan. It was a
majority but Bates (St Mary's) clearly
landed the better quality blows
throughout.

ENGLAND won six golds, Wales four
and Scotland none (no 48 action) when
the British Championships were held at
Liverpool Olympia on May 28-29.
