SHEFTIELO'S unbeaten British
weKerweight champion KELL BROOK
and Charley's former WBO title challenger
MICHAEL JENNINGS will meet
in the new season to settle who is
Britain's best at lOst 7lbs.
Brook sees a victory over
Jennings as his passage into a
higher league.
"Having fought [Miguel] Cotto,
he is known In the States and if I
do a job on him I can make a big
statement about my abilities at
world level," said Brook."
Jennings feels his experience will
prove the difference.
"Brook's a good kid but who has
he really fought?" asked Jennings.
"Everyone is talking about him as
the future of British boxing, but I'll
take him to school."

BELARUSSIAN super-featherweight
SERGEY GULYAKEVICH has given up
his European title to fight for the
WBC interim belt. With full champ
Humberto Soto declaring his
intention to step up to lightweight
after his next defence, the winner
of the August 22 interim scrap
between Guiyakevich and Mexican
HUMBERTO GUTIERREZ in
Mazatlan, Mexico, should be
elevated to 'world' status.
LEVA KIRAKOSYAN and DEVIS
BOSCHIERO will contest the vacant
continental title.

THIS week the Daily Mirror reported
that doctors had discovered
RICKY HATTON had a heart murmur
and, as a result, had advised him
to end his career. Hatton
Promotions CEO Gareth Williams
called the story "absolute
nonsense" and said the murmur,
which Hatton has had since birth,
is common knowledge.

CRAIGMILLAR boxer Jason Easton
was asked to attend a meeting
accompanied by club official Stewart
Anderson at Sportscotland's Edinburgh
offices on Monday July 13 after the
promising light-welterweight suffered
an horrific bottle attack while at the
Brandenburg Cup.
A Craigmillar official confirmed,
"Jason received a deep head wound
requiring 36 stitches after he was
attacked with a broken bottle on a night
out after the boxing had concluded.
"We are deeply concerned, as is his
father Jason Easton Sr, especially as it
has been alleged the attacker was a
member of the Scottish team."
The meeting was with Amateur
Boxing Scotland Director Richard
Thomas and the Craigmillar official
added: "Jason's injury runs from his
forehead down to his left ear.' At first we
were worried that it might stop him
boxing, but we've been told that isn't
now likely to be the case."
Scottish national senior coach Kevin
Smith was not present in Germany, as
he had to attend a meeting in the UK.
