prospect GEORGE GROVES,
contracted to Hayemaker Boxing,
will fight on the October 16
Maloney show in Sunderland. There

of their fighters to appear regularly
on Maloney's Sky TV shows.
AMIR KHAN looks almost certain to
make the first defence of his WBA
light-welterweight title against
unbeaten Brooklyn-based Ukrainian
Dmitriy Saiita on December 5 and the
confident challenger expects it to take
place in the UK.
LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT contender
JAMES KIRKLAND, who pleaded
guilty in July to gun possession by a
convicted felon, was sentenced this
week to two years in prison.
CHARLIE DOUGLAS MBE, who
recently died aged 79, revelled in his
title "King of the Gypsies" and loathed

describe the Romany people of whom
he was a leader in Lanarkshire.
NEW WBC light-heavy champion Jean
Pascal returned to the Bell Centre in his
hometown, winning a mandatory
defence against Italy's Silvio Branco by
stoppage in the 10th round in a bout
that was reasonably entertaining and
occasionally bizarre.
