MAHHEW MACKLiN gets a decent
test for his first bout under top
trainer Buddy ItlcGirt. He faces
Philly punclier WILLiE GiBBS, 20-3
(16), on July 12 at tlie National
Stadium in Dublin.
Gibbs has beaten the likes of
Lenord Pierre and Marco Primera
but has been stopped twice,
including being Itnoclted out in the
first by Colombian banger Edison
Miranda two fights ago.
Last time out, Gibbs lost on
points over 10 to still-useful Dutch
veteran Raymond Joval.
BERNARD DUNNE will top the
Brian Peters bill against an
unnamed opponent and the show
will be televised in Ireland by RTE
and for free on the internet at
www.rte.ie.

GRAHAM EARL is to fight on. The
29-year-old from Luton, stopped in one
round by Amir Khan last December
and retired after five against Michael
Katsidis the fight before, boxes Willie
Limond at the Scottish Exhibition and
Conference Centre in Glasgow on
June 14.
Limond, of course, gave Khan his
greatest scare, knocking down the
Bolton man before being stopped in
a thriller.
Willie will defend the IBO
Intercontinental belt against Earl, who
has been trying his hand as a trainer.
Limond will start a clear favourite.
He outpointed Martin Watson over 12
hard rounds for the belt in March.
Earl insists the Khan stoppage was
premature, even though he admitted
Amir's quick start had taken him by
surprise.
A win over Limond offers Earl a way
back into the top flight, but Graham
admitted it's not ideal as he considers
Willie "a friend."

Fatai goes home
NIGERIAN-born FATAI ONIKEKE,
the former Commonwealth
welterweight champion, has split
with Melbourne trainer Murray
Thomson and returned to his
homeland after a stint being based
in Australia.
Thomson told local media
Onikeke had lost his edge after
a KO loss to Ranee Ganoy in late
2006 - although he had won four
five since then and is 25-3.
WINSOR DOBBIN

FOURTEEN action-packed bouts
delighted a good-size crowd at the
Rayleigh Mill venue, when hosting
Rayleigh ABC managed six wins f r om
10.
Top of the bill was a repeat of
March's Essex ABA light-welter final
with Chadwell and Corringham's Ben
Lisgarten seeking revenge against local
Jamie Homer.
In an intriguing bout, southpaw
Lisgarten stole the initiative in the first,
bloodying Homer's nose. Jamie knew
he had to raise his game and did,
bouncing back with fine shots.
Down the home stretch Homer
sealed victory as he pressured in the
dying seconds of the third and final
round. It was a majority for Homer,
who tomorrow (Saturday May 10) faces
Harwich's Brad Hopper over 4 x 2s at
Colchester.
