He beat off stiff compettion

well as lightweights Martin Gethin
and John Fewkes, Commonwealth
featherweight champion Paul
Truscott and Nottingham's British
super-flyweight champion Andy
Bell.
FORMER European bantamweight
champion Simone Maludrottu stayed
busy by knocking out France's Jean-
Marie Codet in the fourth of a
scheduled eight-rounder.
The Italian is now 28-2 (11), having
won two in a row since losing a WBC
title bid to Hozumi Hasegawa in Japan
in January. Codet falls to 17-24-5.
GILMERTON club boss Rab Young has
hailed the gold medal won by his
Scottish light-welterweight champion
John Thain in Canada between
September 16-21.
The event was held at Merriton
Community Centre in a St. Catherine's,
Ontario. Said Young, "This will help
John be selected for more international
tournaments this season."
Slick-boxing Thain beat Canadian
