STEVE ROBINSON, w h o held the
WBO featherweight title for t w o years
in the 1990s, has taken out a manager's
licence and signed up his first boxer, a
teenage flyweight called Kyle King.
"He's a good boy, strong for his
size and only 18," says Steve of his
new charge, w h o represented Wales
in last year's British Junior
championships.
The popular Robinson - w h o turns
40 t o m o r r ow (Sat Dec 13) - has his
own gym, catering mainly for the
white-collar enthusiasts w h o live in
the redeveloped docklands now
known as Cardiff Bay.
Steve's son Luke, n ow 18, recently
won a Welsh Novices title, while his
14-year-old brother, Jacob, is also
showing promise. But they are
trained, not by their father, b u t at
the Stable ABC across town.

THE dispute over CRAIG WATSON
between Frank Maloney and
Hayemaker continues.
Maloney called to say Watson
has two fights left with him -
against Adnan Amar on December
18 and then the mandatory defence
of his Commonwealth welterweight
title - not one, as we stated two
weeks ago, and that both Adam
Booth and Commonwealth Council
Honorary Secretary Simon Block
were aware of this.
Maloney went on to claim he
offered Hayemaker the chance to
buy these two fights from him but
was turned down. He also said
Booth told him if Watson lost his
title, Hayemaker would no longer
be interested in him.
Booth responded to the latter as
"utter rubbish". He added that in
the summer he'd requested from
Maloney evidence of a written
agreement and that nothing has
been provided.
"As far as I am concerned,
Watson boxes Amar in Dublin and
the deal with Maloney is ended.
"Watson had agreed to box Amar
through the Commonwealth Council.
WB were happy for Frank to stage the
fight as we didn't have a home for it
within the required time period."
Either way, the Watson-Amar
winner must face mandatory
challenger Phillip Kotey of Ghana
next.

NORTH London's Haringey outfit
must be the busiest club around
at the moment. After staging two
shows in five days (Dec 6 and 10
- both will be reported next week),
they travel to Rotterdam for a fournation
tournament today (Friday
December 12).
RYAN TAYLOR {641, ERIC
OCHIENG (69) and KINGSLEY
OKOUE (75) make the trip.
JAMES EASY was also going
before his opponent pulled out
because of a broken nose in
sparring. That allowed Easy to be
matched with Angel's John Ryder on
December 10 - only for that to fall
through because of the pair's work
commitments.

YORKSHIRE beat a Tyne Tees &
Wear squad 4-3 on November 20.
