THE September 13 show in Las
Vegas topped by JOEL CASAMAYOR
and JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ in
an excellent lightweight match
will have strong support,
VERNON FORREST has evoked
a rematch clause that was in the
contract before he lost the WBC
light-middleweight title to SERGIO
MORA. On the same bill, veteran
Filipino GERRY PENALOSA meets
NESTA ROCHA with the former's
WBO bantamweight title on the
line, and hot prospect VICTOR
ORTIZ faces NABO light-welter
champ HENRY BRUSELES, who
is on a good run.
The card will be shown on HBO
PPV.
Meanwhile, Showtime are
building a card to draw fight fans
to their channel on the same night.
TIMOTHY BRADLEY will make the
first defence of the WBC lightwelterweight
title he won from
Junior Witter in May - against
EDNER CHERRY - beneath a main
event in Biloxi, Mississippi that
features IBF, WBA and WBO
lightweight champ NATE CAMPBELL
against JOAN GUZMAN.

FORMER world middleweight
contender HOWARD EASTMAN
meets ANDREW "SIX HEADS" LEWIS
for the Guyanese middleweight
title at the National Stadium in
Georgetown on September 27.
Eastman won the title in Guyana
on July 5 by outpointing Denny
Dalton (16-7-1) by a majority
decision; 114-114 for one judge
with the other two officials marking
for the "Battersea Bomber" 116-
114.
Lewis' last three fights, one in
2005, another in 2006 and one in
2007, have all been against Dalton.
The first was a technical draw and
the second saw Lewis - former
WBA welter champion - retire after
seven before he finally outpointed
Dalton over 12 in April 2007.

RON GRAY was presented with an
award by British Boxing Board of
Control chairman Charlie Giles at
Wolverhampton Civic Hall last week
in recognition of his contribution to
local boxing.
Former pro Gray, who over
quarter of a century promoted
around 150 shows, joined such
notaries as Lenny Henry, Julie
Walters and Noddy Holder on the
Black country venue's Wall of
Fame.
Gray, who enjoyed a 45-fight pro
career, sparred Randolph Turpin
and in June 1963 boxed on the
undercard of the famous Henry
Cooper versus Cassius Clay contest
at Wembley Stadium.

HARD work, silky skills and triumph "
over adversity were all rewarded at
Salisbury City ABC last week during the
club's annual presentations.
Around 50 people attended the
barbecue and saw awards handed out
by the club's 2000 ABA champion
Henry Castle, who is 18-4 as a pro.
It was a fantastic afternoon for a club
that is going from strength to strength.
It was almost 15 years ago when
head trainers Crawford William and
Ray Sparrow combined to set up the
gym behind a pub in the city.
Now, on an industrial premises with
much improved facilities, the club
attracts dozens of seniors and juniors
on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
During the awards, special thanks
went to coaches Dean Vigor, Ray
Cutting, William, Sparrow and Les
Bacon, who give up their free time to
work with the fighter sand keep the
club thriving.
Junior awards went to: most
improved boxer - Daniel McDickson,
up-and-coming boxer - Faz McVey,
boxers' boxer - Liam Wilkins, most
dedicated boxer - Richard High,
biggest heart - Adam Aldridge.
The senior awards went to: most
improved boxer - Matt Dyba, up-andcoming
boxer - Lee Hibhs, boxers'
boxer - Adam Grigg, most dedicated -
Tara Bacon.
The Boxer of the Year awards were
won by Liam Wilkins (junior) and
Adam Grigg (senior).
The club saluted the work of
secretary Paul Wilkins and Vince
Aldridge and Brian McDickson for their
contribution to the club..
A plaque has also been unveiled at
SCABC in tribute to the late Phil
Rooney. The popular Belfastman, who
lived in Amesbury, was a regular at the
club until he passed away nearly three
years ago.
