HENRY MASKE, Germany's gentleman
of boxing and former 'world'
light-heavyweight champ, has
confirmed he is coming back.
Maske, 42, hasn't boxed since losing
a split decision to American Virgil Hill
in Munich in November 1996. It was
his only defeat in 31 paid fights.
The skilful southpaw walked away
from the sport having made good
money. But the loss to Hill has eaten
away at him and he wants revenge.
Hill now holds the"WBA
light-heavyweight title".
Maske said he got the idea to fight
again when hearing that Hill had won
the belt in January.
"There was no winner in our fight,"
said Maske. "But who wins the next
one wins both."
No date or venue has been
announced yet.

RICKY HATTON (above) is
considering vacating the WBA
welterweight title he won from Luis
Collazo in May and dropping back
down to light-welter for his next fight
- in America on December 9.
Hatton, who struggled to beat
Collazo, is under orders from the
WBA to defend against mandatory
challenger Oktay Urkal.
But Ricky's father Ray, who advises
him, told the Manchester Evening News:
"We're not averse to giving up belts
rather than being pushed in mandatory
fights few people want to see.
"It's lovely and an honour to have the
belts, but these days in the modern era
of boxing it's the big fights that the fans
and television companies want to see."
Arturo Gatti's defeat by Carlos
Baldomir on Saturday ruined a
possible showdown with Hatton in
December. But Ray Hatton confirmed
his son's next fight would be in the US.
For now Ricky is off to China to see
Manchester City in pre-season action.

Earl jumps ship
GRAHAM EARL has left Frank
Maloney after nine years and
signed for Frank Warren.
It now seems unlikely Earl will go
ahead with his mandatory European
lightweight title challenge to Juan
Carlos Melero Diaz of Spain.
In a press release, Maloney
wrote: "Earl tells me he has been
offered great terms by Sports
Network to fight for a world title
IWBU). Many think the grass looks
greener on the other side."
