heavyweight champion, slumped to defeat in
three rounds against little known American
Morrie Jackson at the packed World Sporting
Club.

looks poised to take over as British champion,
had little trouble halting Irish Pat Murphy,
from Nfew Jersey, in five rounds in the main
event at a packed York Hall.
JOHN CONTEH, a puncher with world hopes, and
Chris Finnegan, whose southpaw skills command
respect, dispute three light-heavyweight titles at
Wembley on Tuesday in the first sellout at this arena
since Bugner fought Bodell 20 months ago.
HOWARD HAYES Doncaster (9-1) had little difficulty in
beating Billy Belnavis, Wolverhampton (9-4) at the
Anglo-American club, referee Wally Thorn stopping the
tight three seconds from the end of the seventh of the
scheduled eight rounder.
DENMARK'S Tom Bogs outpointed world-ranked American light-heavy
Mike Quarry over 10 rounds and promptly announced he would
relinquish his European middleweight title to campaign in the heavier
division.
TRAINER Peter Hill, who handled Alan Rudkin for some of his biggest fights is to
prepare heavyweight Les Stevens for his British heavyweight title eliminator
against Bunny Johnson at the Albert Hall on June 5.
FORMER ABA champion Tommy Wright (Plant Works) gained a close but
decisive decision over Ken Matthews (West Ham) in a blistering featherweight
contest on the packed Markgate ABC dinner show at the Queensway Hall.
CALIFORNIA'S 6ft 3in Ken Norton came into
London last week with the proclamation that
Muhammad Ali will take another beating when
they clash for a second time at the Inglfewood
Forum on September 10.
