Gatti-Floyd off
THE summer showdown between Arturo Gatti
and Floyd Mayweather is off - for now.
Mayweather was supposed to challenge Gatti in
Atlantic City on June 11, but couldn't agree terms.
An exasperated Bob Arum said after a final deadline
was missed: "I can't deal with these people
[Mayweather's advisers] anymore."
Pat English, lawyer for Main Events, confirmed Gatti
would box on the June date on HBO in America, but
against someone else.
Barney: new date
TIRED of waiting, Southampton light-heavyweight
Matthew Barney has finally been given a date for
his on-off European title shot against German Thomas
Ulrich.
Warren wins fight
THE Scottish showdown for the Commonwealth
and vacant British super-featherweight titles between
Craig Docherly and Alex Arthur goes ahead at the
Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh on April 8.
NUNEATON Boys ABC staged
its first tournament of the
season at the Stockingford
Pavilion on February 11 and
it was a resounding success
with 18 entertaining bouts.
Thanks must go to Meyrick Shaw from
Coventry Boys ABC, who matched the show -
Nuneaton's first in two years.
WEST Country crusher
JAM/E COX had stopped
everyone inside two rounds
in these championships
but couldn't budge STEVE
WILLIAMS light-welter
Cox gave Williams the evil eye all
during the introductions but I doubt
Williams was fazed in the slightest.
He had lasted into the third with
another precocious 18-year-old called
A. Khan just a few weeks ago.
