ON the positive side, DANNY
WILLIAMS returned to the
ring quickly following his
devastating stoppage loss
to Sinan Samil Sam for the
European heavyweight title in
Berlin in February.
The British champion retained his
Commonwealth crown and produced an
explosive finish, crushing 6ft 5ln Australian
Bob Mirovic at the Fountain Leisure Centre
with a furious two-handed onslaught at 2-33
of round four It was scheduled for 12.

NOniNGHAM'S NICKY
BOOTH retained his
British bantamweight
title at Harvey Hadden
Leisure Centre but was
given a sterner test than he
probably bargained for by gutsy
JAMIE YELLAND of Finchley,
whose never-say-die attitude
allowed him to push the champion
close over the 12 rounds.

BEDFORD ABC won a fiercely contested team match on
the last bout against Suffolk ABA at the Moat House
Hotel on April 7.
Speaking about Paul King, MC Ron Hale said, "He's one of the best
matchmakers in the country."
Mr King did not disappoint, with another selection of excellent bouts
from which Bedford emerged 6-5 winners.
Six juniors matches (3 x 11 /2 mins) were joined by two youth and three
senior contests of three-twos duration.
The unanimous points victory of J. Donovan over Chas Leeson at 70
kgs was named Best Bout. This was a very good technical affair
Pat McAleese unanimously outpointed M. Collins at 74 kgs in a very
close battle between evenly-matched boxers.
David Davidson produced an Impressive performance against Leon
Goodjohn at 68 kgs, the referee stopping it in the third round with
Davidson landing effective punches.
Bedford sealed victory in the final 68 kgs bout when Stephen Ely won
a majority decision over Neil McQuade in an emotionally-charged contest.
This was the last match of the season and all bouts received generous
sponsorship.
