Sharmba closes in
KEEPING active is former WBA light-welterweight
champion Sharmba Mitchell, who under the
Gary Shaw promotional banner looks to build on his
November points win over Vince Phillips.
Southpaw Mitchell, eager to force a rematch with
Kostya Tszyu, boxes the Argentine Carlos Wilfredo
Vilches in an IBF title eliminator at Bally's Hotel,
Atlantic City on January 25.

Valuev v Sanders
MASSIVE Russian Nikolai Valuev, 7ft 2in tall and
undefeated in 30 (24 knockouts or stoppages),
and not Britain's Danny Williams, will attempt to scale
the world heavyweight rankings by taking on South
African southpaw Corrie Sanders.

Tszyu orders
THE reason Kostya Tszyu cannot box
Ricky Hatton before the summer is
because the Aussie, who first defends his
world light-welterweight titles against Jesse
James Leija in Melbourne on January 19, is
under orders to next take on WBC No. 1
Gianluca Branco.

UNBEATEN Puerto Rican Ivan Calderon won his
14th straight, but it's still questionable if "Iron Boy"
has the "iron" to win a genuine world championship.
Mexico's Valentin Leon was a brave adversary but
not world class. Yet Calderon could drop him only in the
seventh en route to a lopsided 10-round decision (100-89
three times).
